MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the Aura

Introduced for the 2007 model year, this midsize sedan marked Saturn’s move away from its earlier homegrown compact cars and toward more conventional GM global architecture. It was developed on GM’s Epsilon platform and was positioned as a more refined, upscale alternative within Saturn’s lineup, with a cleaner exterior design and a roomier, more mature cabin than the brand’s previous mid-size offering. The name first appeared on a concept car, and the production version kept the same nameplate when it reached dealerships. The model drew early attention by winning North American Car of the Year for 2007, helping give Saturn one of its strongest late-era products. A Green Line hybrid variant joined the range to emphasize efficiency and broaden the car’s appeal beyond the standard four-cylinder and V6 versions. Production continued through the 2010 model year, making it one of the final Saturn nameplates before the brand was wound down by General Motors.
