The Story of the Polestar 3

This electric SUV nameplate was introduced by Polestar in late 2022 as the brand’s first dedicated performance SUV and one of the key models in its move from a two-car range to a broader line-up. Although the vehicle was unveiled earlier, its first model year in market was 2024, when production began and customer deliveries started. The model was positioned as Polestar’s large SUV, aimed at the premium end of the EV market and intended to translate the company’s minimalist design language and technology-focused approach into a larger family vehicle.

Production began in China in early 2024, with later manufacturing added in South Carolina for North American supply. That made it the first Polestar to be built on two continents, reflecting the company’s expansion strategy and the model’s role as a global flagship SUV. Early examples were launched as dual-motor versions, and the range was later broadened with additional variants as Polestar refined the line-up for different markets.

The vehicle has remained in continuous production since its debut, so there is no separate earlier-and-later production run to distinguish. In the brand’s history, it stands out as the model that moved Polestar decisively beyond its earlier liftback and sedan focus into the large electric SUV segment.
