The Utopia is Pagani’s third major production-era hypercar and the brand’s follow-up to the Huayra. It was officially unveiled in Milan in September 2022, but the nameplate is associated with the 2023 model year, when the car entered production and Pagani framed it as the start of a new chapter for the company. The project was conceived over many years and reflects Horacio Pagani’s long-running emphasis on lightness, craftsmanship, and a driver-focused analog experience in an age of increasing electrification.
Rather than chasing an overtly futuristic visual language, the Utopia was shaped around clean, sculptural forms and classic supercar proportions, with a strong focus on mechanical purity. Pagani positioned it as a continuation of its traditional grand-touring hypercar philosophy: a road car with extreme performance credentials, but also a machine intended to be engaging at everyday speeds and richly detailed inside and out. The coupé was announced as a very limited-production model, underscoring its collector-car status from the outset.
One of the Utopia’s defining historical traits is that it remains a purely combustion-powered Pagani, developed with Mercedes-AMG, and offered with a choice of transmission philosophies that include a manual gearbox. That decision gave the car special significance among modern hypercars, where hybridization and dual-clutch gearboxes have become increasingly common. In Pagani’s own chronology, the Utopia is presented as the company’s third era, following the Zonda and Huayra, and it helped establish the brand’s modern identity for the 2020s. A Roadster variant followed later, but the original Utopia coupé remains the core nameplate that launched the series.
