The Nissan NV was introduced for the 2012 model year as Nissan’s first purpose-built full-size commercial van for the United States market. Developed as a body-on-frame work van, it was offered in cargo and passenger configurations and positioned as a rugged alternative to the more carlike vans that dominated the segment. Nissan emphasized practical commercial features such as multiple roof heights, wide rear doors, and a cab-forward layout that put the driver closer to the windshield while still retaining a truck-like chassis and service-friendly packaging.
The nameplate launched as part of Nissan’s modern commercial-vehicle push in North America and quickly became the brand’s large-van entry for businesses, fleets, and shuttle operators. Over its run, the NV line expanded into a family that included light-duty and heavy-duty cargo variants as well as the passenger van, while maintaining the same basic formula of straightforward utility and durability. The passenger version in particular became known for its high seating capacity and work-or-play versatility, while the cargo versions were aimed squarely at trades, delivery, and upfit use.
After the 2021 model year, Nissan ended production of the NV in the U.S. market, closing the book on the nameplate’s single continuous production run. It remains a notable chapter in Nissan’s commercial-vehicle history as the brand’s first modern full-size van in America.
