This model nameplate was introduced as part of Moto Guzzi’s third-generation V7 family, which the company launched in 2017 to mark the 50th anniversary of the original V7. The Rough was the most dirt-road-flavored member of that line, taking the familiar small-block Moto Guzzi platform and giving it a more rugged, scrambler-inspired personality. Visual cues such as its spoked wheels, raised stance, brushed-metal and utilitarian detailing, and deliberately pared-back styling set it apart from the more traditional V7 variants.
In the V7 III lineup, the Rough was aimed at riders who wanted classic Moto Guzzi character with a tougher, more casual look rather than full café-racer or pure roadster styling. It fit into a broader period in which Moto Guzzi refreshed the V7 range while preserving the transverse V-twin, shaft-drive identity that has long defined the brand.
The Rough remained on sale through the final years of the V7 III generation and appears to have been discontinued when Moto Guzzi moved to the next V7 family. It did not continue as a separate revived nameplate after that transition, so its history is best understood as a single production run within the V7 III era.
