The Story of the V7 III Racer

This café-racer variant of Moto Guzzi’s V7 line arrived with the third-generation V7 family in 2017, extending a sub-series that had already begun with earlier V7 Racer models in 2010 and 2015. It was positioned as the sportiest expression of the V7 III range, combining the familiar transverse V-twin character and classic Mandello styling with a more focused, heritage-inspired presentation. The design leaned heavily on Moto Guzzi’s sporting past, especially the 1971 V7 Sport and its famous red-frame look, which inspired details such as the contrasting chassis treatment and the semi-handlebar, single-seat-style café-racer stance. In 2020, the model received a 10th Anniversary update that refreshed its appearance while keeping the same basic identity, including the numbered-side-panel, compact fairing and retro race-bike cues that made it the emotional flagship of the V7 III family. Production appears to have run continuously from 2017 through 2020, after which Moto Guzzi moved on to the next V7 generation without this exact nameplate.
