MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the CT

The CT was introduced for the 2011 model year as a compact five-door hybrid hatchback positioned as an entry point to the brand’s lineup. It was developed as a dedicated hybrid from the outset, giving the nameplate a distinct place in the market at a time when premium compact hybrids were still rare. The original car arrived as the CT 200h, and the model quickly became known for combining hatchback practicality with a strong efficiency focus and an upscale feel rather than outright performance.

Over its life, the CT went through a series of updates rather than a full reinvention. The early cars established the basic formula, while later revisions refreshed the styling, equipment, and technology. A sportier F SPORT variant broadened the appeal of the line and gave the nameplate a more aggressive visual character without changing its core mission. In Japan, the model was refreshed again in the late 2010s and continued in production through 2022.

The CT ended production in late 2022 after more than a decade on sale. Its significance lies in being one of the defining premium hybrid hatchbacks of its era and an important early example of how a luxury brand could build an efficient, compact car around hybrid technology rather than treating it as an add-on.
