The Scout nameplate dates to 1920, when Indian Motorcycle released the first Scout as a light, quick, and approachable machine that became one of the brand’s defining motorcycles. Through the early decades, the Scout line evolved into several notable prewar and postwar variants and earned a strong reputation in racing and long-distance use, helping cement its status in American motorcycling history. The original Scout era ended in the late 1940s, closing the first production period after decades of continuous development. Indian Motorcycle later revived the name for the 2015 model year with an all-new Scout, returning the badge after more than 70 years. That modern reintroduction began a second production period under the same historic nameplate, and the current Scout family continues to build on the original model’s legacy as a midsize Indian cruiser with a clear heritage connection.
