This nameplate debuted for the 2020 model year as a scrambler-inspired member of the FTR family, extending Indian Motorcycle’s flat-track-derived platform into a more upright, adventure-leaning street bike. It was introduced as the FTR Rally and positioned as a distinct trim within the broader FTR 1200 lineup rather than as a separate mechanical platform. The concept mixed modern performance with a retro-rally look, using styling cues such as a rally-style windscreen, wire-spoke wheels, and off-pavement-inspired details to give the bike a softer, more versatile personality than the standard FTR models.
The model was part of Indian’s effort to broaden the appeal of the FTR line beyond pure performance and track heritage. While the original FTR was closely tied to the brand’s flat-track racing image, this version was aimed at riders who wanted that same visual attitude in a machine with a more relaxed stance and a scrambler flavor. Indian continued offering it through the 2023 model year, but it did not appear in the 2024 FTR lineup, indicating the end of its continuous production run. It remains the most road-going and style-focused interpretation of the early FTR family, and an important transitional model in the evolution of Indian Motorcycle’s modern performance line.
