MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the H3

Introduced for the 2006 model year, this was the smallest and most consumer-oriented Hummer of the original GM-era lineup. It carried the brand’s square-jawed styling and off-road image into a more manageable midsize package, using GM truck underpinnings related to the Colorado/Canyon family rather than the larger H1 and H2 formula. That made it the entry point for buyers who wanted the Hummer look and trail-focused character without the size and cost of the bigger models. The model quickly became the volume center of the Hummer brand, and it was later joined by the H3T pickup variant for the 2009 model year, which extended the nameplate into a compact lifestyle truck format. Production continued through the 2010 model year, when the Hummer brand was discontinued after GM’s restructuring. The nameplate is remembered as the most accessible classic Hummer, balancing rugged styling with a smaller footprint and a broader market mission than its predecessors.
