The S2-T Thunderbolt was Buell’s sport-touring interpretation of the S2 Thunderbolt, introduced during the mid-1990s when the company was still defining its identity around Harley-Davidson V-twin power and unconventional chassis design. It appeared for the 1995 model year and remained in the lineup through 1996, giving riders a more practical alternative to the sharper, more stripped-down Buell sport models of the same era.
Compared with the standard S2, the S2-T was aimed at riders who wanted Buell character with added day-to-day usefulness. Its touring brief was reflected in its more relaxed setup and luggage provision, while it still carried the visual and engineering cues that made early Buells distinctive: compact proportions, a minimalist American performance aesthetic, and the brand’s emphasis on road-focused handling rather than outright drag-strip or cruiser styling.
The S2-T belongs to Buell’s early production period, when the company was moving from experimental and limited-run machines into a more established factory motorcycle business. As such, it is remembered as part of the formative Thunderbolt family, a nameplate that helped define Buell’s “sport standard” and sport-touring direction before later models expanded the line.
